Each Sunday morning, we gather to worship and rest. We come together weekly to give glory to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to practice our eternal vocation! As we worship, the Lord gives us rest in Jesus Christ through the Gospel, He reorients us to the reality that this is our Father's world, we learn obedience to His Word as His joyful children, we encourage/admonish one another, and we welcome those who come into our midst from the community or from out of town.

Discipleship begins with "Follow me." This is the command that Christ makes to the world, and it is the very heart of what it means to be a disciple. Here at CPC we believe that discipleship is not a program or plan, but a relationship with the Father, Son and Spirit as they seek to bring each of us into conformity with the image of Christ.

Our Beliefs

We adhere to the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Shorter Catechism, and the Larger Catechism as our doctrinal standards. Taken from the statement of beliefs of the Presbyterian Church in America:

01We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God's truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

02We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

03We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God's displeasure, except by His mercy.

04We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.

05We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.

06We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises.

07We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God's people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.

08We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.

09We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Outreach & Missions

Church members are encouraged to build relationships with unbelievers, love them, and share Christ with them at opportune times. Besides our Discipleship Groups, all other programs and meetings of the church are intended to be welcoming and accessible to non-Christians. We may occasionally have evangelistic programs that specifically reach out to unbelievers.

Here are organizations that CPC supports financially. There will be times when we invite the entire church to serve in a specific way, but in general we encourage our members to serve individually where they have a heart to serve. These are some good organizations to consider.

Other ways to serve

Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Habersham County for neglected and abused children in the foster care system, or open your home and heart as a Foster Parent for needy and vulnerable children.

Children's Ministry

Nursery

Our church provides a nursery for children birth through preK. Each nursery room is divided into age appropriate groups to help foster an ability to love and care for each individual child. Children are fed a snack, listen to music and play together during this time. Each volunteer must pass a background check and go through a ministry safe training before they are able to serve with our children.

(4 years to finishing Pre-K) Children are dismissed for this room before the pastoral prayer. We encourage you to bring your child into the worship service with you until they are dismissed.

Sunday School

Toddlers to 5th grade

We meet during the fall and spring semesters from 9:30-10:15 a.m. We are currently using the New City Catechism and Growing in God's Word by Ligonier Ministries as our Sunday school curriculum.

Summer

Fun Camp

A camp for children ages pre-K through 5th grade that meets for three consecutive days during the summer. Children rotate through art, music, sports, and Bible stations, with a whole group worship time and lunch.

Seasonal Events

Each season we offer events that give families time to come together and fellowship. Our hope is to put discipleship tools into the hands of families so they can foster a love of the Lord through learning the "why" behind our celebration. Events include Advent Wreath Workshop, Christmas party, Resurrection Garden Workshop, Easter Egg Hunt, and a few summer playdates.

The purpose of CPC Student Ministry is to partner alongside parents in discipling relationships to help students understand the gospel of Jesus Christ, resulting in an ownership of faith and a lifestyle of ministry.

We try to gather together weekly to connect around our need for Jesus. Our time together is for the purpose of connecting as a community of people in the same age and stage of life. Sunday night normally will involve a time to connect together (games, eating together, etc.).

Toccoa Church Plant

For years CPC has desired to spread the gospel through the planting of a church in the area surrounding Clarkesville. In Spring of 2024 we called Rev. Brandon Hawkes to lead this effort. Our hope is to plant and grow a new PCA church that shares the DNA of CPC in the heart of Toccoa over the next few years.

Why Plant churches?

With so many churches in Stephens County, why start another one? In Matthew 16:18 Jesus says, "I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." We believe God is expanding his kingdom and is pleased to do that through the planting of churches that make and mature disciples of Christ through the proclamation of His word. We believe that as we plant churches, we are being faithful to Christ's great commission to "go therefore and makes disciples." We have the instruction of the apostle Paul who told Titus to organize local churches saying, "This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you." Statistically, in the last 25 years the number of churches in North America has decreased at an unprecedented rate and we would like to see that reversed by the development of healthy, thriving churches in every town in NE GA.

The Process

01Approval On August 15, 2024, Georgia Foothills Presbytery approved the Toccoa Church plant with Rev. Brandon Hawkes as the pastor and Philip Smith, Kyle Bellamy, and Rev. Hobie Wood as the temporary session.

02Support Raising Beginning in Spring, Brandon will be raising support from individuals and churches who want to help this fledgling congregation get started.

03Gathering core group After raising funds we will gather a core group from CPC to share the mission of the church plant and begin to grow together as a church body.

04Worship After months of gathering with the core group we will begin public worship together in Toccoa on the Lord's day.

05Particularization After worshiping together for a time we will nominate, train, and ordain elders from within our own congregation to become a "particular" church.

Childcare / Nursery

Our children's director, April Akridge, oversees our children's and nursery ministry. All church members are strongly encouraged to volunteer in the nursery during worship. Sunday School teachers are also needed for each semester of Sunday School. Child/Youth Protection Policies are in place to ensure the safety of our children.

Hospitality

The hospitality director works with this team to coordinate set up of the coffee station on Sunday mornings and arrange major church functions (i.e. Vision Dinner, Memorial Day Picnic, etc.).

Audio Team

Audio team members supervise the set-up of the sound system and run the sound system during the worship service.

Greeting

The greeting team is the first face many new visitors may see. We want to be a welcoming church and help visitors acquaint themselves with our church. As part of the greeting team, you will be warm and inviting, hand out bulletins and help visitors find where they need to go.

Community Service

The deacons have identified several ministries in our community they recommend church members volunteer to serve in. Please speak with a deacon about serving in these ministries. The deacons also plan community service opportunities that are announced to the church.

Therefore, discipleship includes all of life, worship, service, suffering, devotion, prayer, and vocation. It includes our finances and our relationships, our hobbies and our disciplines. It is a holistic vision of following Christ in every sphere of our lives while cooperating in the work of the Spirit which is dedicated to helping us faithfully continue in the journey of following Christ. We are eager to join you on that journey.

Worship

God set up the world to have day of rest and reorientation, because we need it. Each Sunday morning worship service is designed to help us: find rest in Jesus Christ through the Gospel, be reoriented to the reality that this is our Father's world, learn obedience to His Word as His joyful children, encourage/admonish one another, welcome those who come into our midst from the community or from out of town. During each worship service we pray, sing, confess our sin, confess the faith, read Scripture, and hear the Word of God preached. We also celebrate the sacraments of the Lord's Supper and Baptism. Our worship of God on Sunday mornings is our staple diet as Christians. We need the Word, the church, the presence of the Spirit, and the rest/reminder that God has graciously provided for us in the gathered worship of His Church.

Small Groups

Here at Christ Presbyterian Church our primary focus is to join with God in his process of conforming his people to the image of Christ. Towards this end we provide opportunities every week to join together outside of corporate worship to experience community and encourage one another in the faith. Small groups are smaller gatherings that take place in the intimacy of a home where spiritual and relational growth is fostered in the context of daily life. Each of our small group opportunities vary in terms of depth, frequency of meetings, and commitment level.

Formation Groups

Formation groups are designed to develop organically within the natural course of our deepening relationships here at CPC. Who you chose to meet with, the frequency, and the duration are for you to decide. However we do have some suggested guidelines. First, that the group is comprised of three people who are committed to meeting for at least 6 months. Our suggestion would be to try to meet at least twice per month for no less than an hour to discuss the following questions and praying for one another:

In what ways have you responded in sinful ways to the heat?

What do these thorns reveal about the true source of your ultimate hope?

What does the Bible say about how to respond as Christ in this moment?
